On the eve of the world’s biggest sporting event, Italy’s Filippo Pignatelli has urged fans to be patient with the chips, with the country’s traditional football teams still a year away from making the final.
The Italian national team has been without its top scorer since the 3-2 loss to Switzerland at the World Cup in Brazil on June 6, leaving Italy without its leading scorer since Gianluigi Buffon.
Pignatello is currently the captain of the Italy U19s, who were beaten 2-1 by Chile in the last 16 of the World Championship.
He has also been on the bench in three of Italy’s four Group B games, including the 4-2 defeat to Russia in the final on Wednesday.
“There is no need to rush to make decisions,” Pignato said.
“There is a chance of being a part of a great team, but we need to wait until the end of the tournament.”
“I think there is a good chance we will qualify for the World Championships with a good team, because we have already played well in qualifying,” he added.
Italy has a good squad, but there is still a lot of time until the World Games.”
We need to do everything to be in a good shape, to be ready for the tournament and also in the World Cups.”
